I currently serve as the bi-vocational Minister of Education at First Baptist Church of Goose Creek. I have also served as Worship Leader and Minister of Youth at FBC. My family and I became members of FBC in January 1989 when we relocated to this area from Virginia Beach, Virginia. I have worked for the Federal government since 1976 and have worked in Kentucky, Virginia, and South Carolina. Prior to my Federal service I was employed by the State of West Virginia beginning in 1973. I have served as Chairman of Deacon's at FBC Goose Creek and a variety of other positions prior to my Ordination to the Gospel Ministry in 2000.
My wife, Barbara, is the Ministry Assistant at FBC and was previously employed at Charleston Southern University. We were high school sweethearts back in West Virginia, where we grew up, and have been married since 1972. We have two grown children, Chris and Michelle, and they are married and live in the Goose Creek area. Isabella is our first grandchild and has brought much joy into our lives! (Let me know if you would like to see her picture!)
I have a Master's Degree in Counseling and enjoy conducting individual, family, pre-marital and marriage counseling as a part of my ministry. I occasionally fill the pulpit and enjoy sharing God's Word and how it can change our lives!
I have a wide range of work experiences since graduating from Marshall University and West Virginia State University and believe God has used these experiences to provide opportunity to share His love with a variety of people. I have been a social worker, probation and parole officer, correctional officer, prison administrator, and I also teach courses in criminal justice at Charleston Southern University. I have taught for Golden Gate University Graduate School and St. Leo University. Working with the college students has been an additional blessing and a part of my ministry over the years.
I love the people of FBC and they have cared for me and my family over many years. The education ministry enables each person to study God's Word and to apply it in their daily lives. I hope you will become a part of our weekly Bible Study Group which meets on Sunday morning and the other ministries of our church.
In His Service,
Michael R. Rucker
